GP10 uses XAML vector graphic files for map icons.
The benefit of using vector images over the more common "raster" images (bmp, jpg, png, etc.) is that vector graphics can be scaled up and down without losing quality. This means you can zoom in and out of the map and the icons will always be visible and sharp.
The disadvantage is that photos and images saved off the internet cannot be used, as these are raster images. You will need to create or download icons suitable for what you need.
XAML is not a very common vector image format, however you can download vector images in the more common SVG format, and convert them to XAML with a vector image editor such as Inkscape.
A good site for downloading SVG vector images is SVGRepo.
- Download and install Inkscape from here.
- Run Inkscape and open your SVG file.
- Click Save As and save the file as the XAML format.
Note: Any raster images in the vector file will be ignored by GP10. - In GP10, go to Setup, Position and select the icon section you want (Door, Output, Input etc.).
- Click the palette menu button, then New, give the palette a name and click Save.
- Click on the new icon button.
- Click the green add buttons to add your symbol to the icon, and click OK.
- You can now add the icons to the map.
