Prerequisites
Before enabling automated printing via a Global Reflex in GuardPoint10, ensure the following:
Your GuardPoint10 system must include the Advanced Global Reflex module.
This module is required to access Reports Actions within a reflex.GuardPoint10 does not have direct access to the Windows print manager.
This limitation prevents it from sending documents directly to a printer.Reports in GuardPoint10 are built using Telerik Reporting, which does not currently offer a built-in method to auto-print reports through the reflex system.
Alternative Solution: Email-to-Print Functionality
A practical workaround is to use printers that support email-to-print. This method allows the Global Reflex to email the generated report to a specific printer email address, which then prints the document automatically.
Supported Printer Brands and Features
HP (HP ePrint)
Assigns a unique email address to the printer via HP Smart or HP Connected.
Supports PDF, Office documents, and image files.
Includes access control to limit accepted senders.
Epson (Epson Email Print)
Each printer is given a unique email address.
Compatible with PDF, Word, Excel, and image formats.
Sender authorization options are available for security.
Canon
Some models support email-based printing via Canon’s cloud services.
Requires registration and configuration through Canon’s platform.
Google Cloud Print is no longer supported.
Brother (iPrint&Scan or Web Connect)
Email attachments can be printed automatically.
Requires setup through Brother’s cloud services.
Xerox (Workplace Cloud)
Offers email-to-print with secure print release options.
Ideal for business environments needing control over print jobs.
Ricoh (Smart Integration)
Enables email printing through Ricoh’s Smart Integration service.
Requires configuration and may involve a subscription.
Example Workflow in GuardPoint10
Configure your SMTP Mail Server
Go to Setup → Options → Email Settings and configure your SMTP mail server. This ensures GuardPoint10 can send emails through the reflex system.Create a Global Reflex
Design a Global Reflex that generates a report when triggered by an event (e.g., door forced open, fire alarm, etc.).Add an Email Action
Within the reflex, include an Email Action that sends the report as an attachment.Set the Printer’s Email Address
In the email action, enter the email address assigned to your compatible printer (e.g., HP ePrint address).Test and Validate
Trigger the reflex to verify the report is generated, emailed, and successfully printed by the printer.
Conclusion
While GuardPoint10 doesn’t support direct printing from a Global Reflex, email-to-print is a reliable alternative that works well with many modern printers. This method can be used to automatically print reports such as fire muster lists, visitor logs, or incident summaries without manual intervention.
